​Embark on an unforgettable motorcycle adventure aboard Royal Enfield Himalayan Motorcycles, starting from the vibrant city of Kathmandu, Nepal and journeying across the border into the mystical land of Tibet. Over the course of 16 days, you'll traverse the rugged terrain of the Tibetan plains to reach the iconic Everest Base Camp.

This fully inclusive expedition is designed to immerse you in the rich cultural tapestry of the region, leading you through the spiritual heartland of Lhasa, across the vast Tibetan high plains to Rongbuk, the starting point for climbers venturing towards the summit of Mount Everest.

Your route will take you over challenging high-altitude passes such as Kampa-La and Karo-La, bringing you close to the worlds highest peak. Each day of the journey unveils a new chapter in the interlined history of Nepal and Tibet with visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites, breathtaking mountain vistas, serene lakes and ancient monasteries.

HIGHLIGHTS

The journey begins in the bustling city of Kathmandu, which is a melting pot of cultures and religions, featuring ancient temples, vibrant markets and bustling streets. Take in the UNESCO sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa and Pashuptatinath Temple.

We bed down for the night at Everest Base Camp, which offering awe-inspiring views of the worlds highest peak and with its rugged terrain and high altitude make it challenging but highly rewarding.

Rongbuk Monastery which is located at 4980 metres, making it the highest in the world, with breathtaking views of Everest it holds religious importance for Buddhists.

Lhasa and the Potala Palace is an iconic landmark and a UNESCO world heritage site. Built in the 7th Century by King Gampo it was later extended by the Dalai Lama himself. It comprises of numerous halls and chapels however it also included the Red Palace and White Palace showcasing Tibetan architecture, art and religious artefacts.

Riding the high mountain passes of Gyatso La and Kampa La with literally take your breath away.

ITINERARY

12th April - Leave the UK for Kathmandu in Nepal.

13th April, day one - arrive in Kathmandu: 
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu we will be on hand and ready to transfer you to the hotel in the centre of the city. Today is yours, you may just want to relax at the hotel, tonight we meet for dinner.

14th April, day two - day off Kathmandu: 
Today is to relax after your journey to Nepal, take in some of the sights as we apply for the Tibetan Visa and border crossing paperwork on your behalf, tonight we will meet for dinner.

15th April, day three - Kathmandu sightseeing:
After breakfast, we will go for a sightseeing tour of Patan Durbar Square which features temples, monuments, and palaces, each with distinct designs. The area is also known for its Thanka painters and fine metal shops selling handmade brass sculptures of Buddha. 
Then we drive to Swayambhunath, also known as the "Monkey Temple". This is one of the oldest and most significant religious sites in Nepal. The temple complex is adorned with intricate architecture, statues, prayer wheels, and colourful flags, reflecting the rich heritage.

16th April, day four - Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (150kms) 
Today we will embark on an exhilarating motorbike journey from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, a picturesque village in the Langtang region. In the late afternoon we will reach Syabrubesi, nestled at the confluence of the Bhote Koshi and Langtang rivers. Take in the breathtaking mountain views, relax at a local tea house, and savour a warm meal before resting for the night. This motorbike journey offers a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty, allowing us to immerse ourself in the charm of the Nepalese countryside. (2380m)
 
17th April, day five - Syabrubesi through the Tibetan Border to Kyirong (35kms)
After having breakfast, we will ride towards the Nepal-Tibet border. Upon completing immigration formalities at the border, we will enter the Chinese Autonomous Region. We'll cross the bridge at the border and enter Tibet. We will be staying at the hotel/guest house near the Kyirong border for better acclimatisation. (2300m)

18th April, day six - Kyirong to Shergar (300kms)
After breakfast, we will ride to Shegar. Today, we will pass through the Gonda Yandol La pass, which is at an elevation of 5326m. We will also travel via Pigu Tso Lake and continue to Old Tingri. Along the way, the scenery is breathtaking (literally), with Shisha Panbma snow mountain on the right and Pigu Tso Lake on the left. You can relish the view of Mt. Everest on the route to Old Tingri. (4200m)

19th April, day seven - Shergar to Shigatse (260kms)
After breakfast, we will drive to Shigatse (3900m), the second-largest city in Tibet. We will travel via Lhatse, which is three hours away from Shegar, continuing our journey through Gyatso La Pass (5220m) and Yulung La (4950m) at Jia Tsuo La (Lhakpa La). In Lhatse, there is a facility for having tea/snacks. Upon reaching Shigatse, the renowned location of the Tashilumpho Monastery and the former seat of the Panchen Lama until his death in 1989, we will enjoy the sight of the huge Thanka Wall, clearly visible on the northern side of the road. Additionally, we can explore the local market.

20th April, day eight - Shigatse to Lhasa (280kms)
After breakfast, we will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery and Shigatse. We will ride to Lhasa via the northern route. Today's journey will take us along the Yarlung Zangbo River at Chushul, where the Kyichu River joins. We will pass through Nyemo country and Rinbung country. (3600m)

21st April, day nine - Lhasa day off:
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a tour to the Majestic Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Market, respectively.
Potala Palace: Also known as the "winter palace," this imposing structure dominates the landscape of Lhasa. A 13-storied complex monument rising to a height of over 117m, it houses 10,000 shrines, over 200,000 images, and about 1000 rooms. As you are guided through the ancient chambers of the palace, you will witness Tibetan art at its best, featuring intricate murals and beautiful statues. The Potala Palace also showcases the tombs of the eight Dalai Lamas. Due to tourist traffic, only one hour of visit is allowed in the Potala Palace.
Jokhang Temple: Dating back to the seventh century, this geomantic temple at the heart of Lhasa is the most sacred temple in all of Tibet. Considered a Power Place, it was founded by Queen Bhrikuti, a Nepalese princess married to King Songtsen Gampo. The temple's main gate faces west towards Nepal in recognition of Queen Bhrikuti. The most impressive structure of the Jokhang Temple is the many chapels surrounding it.
Barkhor Market (Bazaar): The popular Barkhor Market is a square where Tibetan handicraft items, Buddhist artifacts, carpets, paintings, etc., are all available for your delight. At the end of the day, your guide will escort you back to your hotel. Lhasa offers a variety of restaurants for both lunch and dinner.
(Note: Since only a limited number of visitors are allowed inside the Potala Palace every day, the order of sightseeing places will be decided upon by your guide.)
 
22nd April, day ten - Lhasa to Shigatse: (370kms) 
After breakfast, we will leave Lhasa and embark on a 370km ride, taking approximately 6 hours, including a break for lunch at one of the villages en-route. Our journey will take us over two spectacular high passes – the Kampa La at 4,750m and Karo La at 5,010m, traversing the beautiful deep blue-green lake known as Yamdrok Lake or Turquoise Lake. The landscape of the Tibetan Plateau is truly unusual and spectacular. We will reach Gyantse, an old Tibetan town set against the backdrop of magnificent 14th-15th-century fortresses and temples. Here, we will visit Pelkhor Chode Temple and Khumbum, respectively. After detail visit you will drive to second largest city of Tibet, Shigatse.
Pelkor Chöde: Located at 3900 meters above sea level, this monastery, also known as Palcho Monastery, coexists with different Tibetan Buddhist sects. Built in the early 15th century, it features a unique mix of pagoda and monastery architecture. The Kumbum Stupa, a symbolic structure with nine layers, contains nearly 77 temple halls housing 10,000 Buddha statues, earning it the nickname "Ten Thousand Stupa." The monastery is renowned for its distinctive sculptures and murals.
Kumbum: Commissioned in 1427, Gyantse Kumbum Chorten is the town's main attraction. This 35-meter high chorten, adorned with white layers and a golden dome, is awe-inspiring. Inside, a series of tiny chapels decorated with wall paintings and various statues of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and deities create a mesmerizing atmosphere. With nine levels, 108 cells, and 75 chapels, the Kumbum offers an incredible view from its outdoor terrace, overlooking the town, monastery, and surrounding fort. (3900m)

23rd April, day eleven - Shigatse to Shergar (260kms)
After breakfast, we will drive along the Friendship Highway amidst picturesque landscapes for approximately 5 hours. We will pass the small town of Lhatse and cross one of the highest passes of the tour, Gyatso La Pass (5,220m). As the route opens into plains, numerous monasteries and camps of nomadic herders will become visible en route to Shegar. (4200m)

24th April, day twelve - Shergar to Rongbuk (295kms)
Following a typical breakfast, we will embark on a journey to Rongbuk. Once there, we will explore the Rongbuk Monastery and take in the breathtaking views of Everest. This sacred site and its surroundings promise a unique and awe-inspiring experience, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the spiritual atmosphere of the monastery while marveling at the majestic beauty of Mount Everest. (5100m)
(Note: Accommodation at Everest Base Camp is very basic, with no showers and the toilets are outside.)

25th April, day thirteen - Rongbuk to Everest Base Camp to Kyirong: (290kms)
After breakfast, we will ride, crossing over Lalung-la Pass at (5,050m) and enjoying beautiful panoramas of the Himalayan Range, including Mt. Everest. On the way, we will also pass by Peku Tso (Lake) and arrive in Dzonkha (Kyirong Xian). We will then ride a further 70km, crossing the high pass Yangdo La at 5326m/17470ft, to reach the Nepal border town of Kyirong. Kyirong is not only a famous religious and historical place but also the home of the 11th Century great saint and Guru Milarepa, known for his tantric wisdom, as well as a poet and folk singer. His songs are still remembered by local herdsmen and villagers.

26th April, day fourteen - Kyirong to Nepalese Border to Kathmandu: (200kms) 
After breakfast, we will ride 25 km to the border and the immigration point. After completing Chinese immigration formalities, we will cross into Nepal and meet our Nepali representative. Following Nepali immigration formalities, we will continue our ride to Kathmandu. As we approach Kathmandu, the scenery transforms, and the vibrant energy of the city becomes palpable. Navigate through the bustling streets and arrive at Kathmandu, where ancient temples, vibrant markets, and a rich cultural tapestry await. 

27th April, day fifteen - Kathmandu day off:
Today, the day is free for personal leisure, providing an opportunity to relax and unwind. It is also the day where we head back home with a pocketful of memories.

28th April, day sixteen - fly home:
Today, we say goodbye to all of our new friends and hope we see them again.
