Utah Back Country Discovery Route ( UTBDR) is a rolling scenic vista of trails and iconic sandstone towers, covering sections of the high Uintas, the Moab and Valley of the Gods, the endless remote trails add to the adventure.

The Moab Desert is the home to the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks where around each corner, red rock landscapes fill your visor. Moab’s year-round access to thousands of square miles of motorcycle adventure trails make this a sought after area to visit for those who want to take up the challenge.

The petrified sand dunes of Hells Revenge is a roller coaster ride with lots of steep climbs, hair raising descents with some trail sections which will challenges the most experienced of motorcycle adventurer. The Matterhorn of the Moab is seen as one of the world's best natural motorcycle playground.

The 12000ft backdrop of the La Sal Mountain range, Utah's second highest range, are permanently on display as we ride through Canyonlands and The Arches National Parks.

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah and sees the start and finish of our adventures. This laid back city has everything for the experienced traveller.

ITINERARY

11th September - day one: Arrive in Salt Lake City. Check into hotel and if time allows get fitted for bikes.

12th September - day two: Salt Lake City to the Mexican Hat (400 miles) We'll get fitted for our bikes and load up luggage in the support truck and depart for the Mexican Hat. This is a long ride that is paved, we will take a direct route and take plenty of stops along the way. The goal will be to take it easy and get into Mexican Hat at a reasonable time to allow everyone to get rested up.

13th September - day three: The Mexican Hat to Monticello (175 miles) Anyone who wants to ride through Monument Valley will depart before sunrise and ride to “Forest Gump” hill. This is about 60 miles round trip and is all paved but provides a great view at sunrise. The group will then ride back to the Mexican Hat and fuel up to start full with the rest of the group. We will ride north towards Valley of the Gods to get our first taste of dirt before climbing the Moki Dugway. From here we will push north and get a taste of sand, rock and sand as we navigate washes and jump from one scenic overlook to another.

14th September - day four: Monticello to Moab (150 miles) First section of the ride is paved and twisty giving an excellent view of the southern part of Moab and the La Sal mountains. We will take a detour to check out a very impressive collection of petroglyphs. Anyone who needs an easier ride will follow the support vehicle to Moab from here. We will then ride directly at the La Sal Mountains. This section has proven to be humbling for many riders who were confident with their off-road ability. This leads to one of the longest downhill rides during our ride is scattered with loose rocks and tight turns. We will end our day in Moab with enough day light for anyone who wants to continue riding. Arches National park and the Slick Rock trail system are both close to town and riders can chose to rest or do a ride of their choice.

15th September - day five: Moab (150-180 miles) We will spend the day riding out Moab. The goal will be to ride the White Rim Road but that will also depend on how riders did coming up over the La Sal mountains. The White Rim is not an overly technical ride but it is very exposed and can be intimidating.
If we decide to skip this section we will do a great section of dirt roads and overlooks that won’t disappoint anyone. 150-180 miles depending on route

16th September - day six: Moab to Green River ( 150 miles) Traveling north of Moab you start to leave higher elevation proving for long down hills with water crossing and tight canyons. As we enter the low lands we will see historical bridges and petroglyphs as well as abandoned mining towns. We will finish in Green River.

17th September - day seven: Green River ( 150 miles) We will detour south for a day in the Dunes! We will be in an open riding area with sand dunes galore as well as a good mix of trails and washes to ride in. We will be able to do several different rides based on skill level and interest. We will return to Green River. 150 miles.

18th September - day eight: Green River to Price (120 miles) This will be a slightly easier day to make up for time spent picking bikes up in the sand! Mostly gravel roads and we will have the opportunity to check out the dinosaur quarry.

19th September - day nine: Price to Park City (160 miles) We will depart Price and ride one of my favourite sections of paved road. Nine Mile canyon has been recently paved and is kept in great condition. Most of this ride is on dirt. This is also the section that was washed out over the summer and we had to find a work around that was also eventually washed out. There are plenty of roads to choose from in this section and I will be sure to pick the best route based on conditions over the summer.

20th September - day ten: Park City (160 miles) We will ride the best parts of northern Utah! This will take us on a collection of single and double track linked together with a few mountain roads.

21st September - day eleven: Park City to Salt Lake City  We will be tired and can start riding at any time. I will be ready to take anyone who is interested back out for more riding but so far no one has taken me up on a last day trail ride. We will take a nice scenic ride back to Salt Lake City and check in the bikes.

22nd September - day twelve: Head home
